Graduate Student, English Ph.D. Program
About
I am a Ph.D. candidate in English at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY), focusing on British and American Modernism. My dissertation -- "The Einstein of English Fiction": James Joyce, the New Physics, and Modernist Print Culture [expected December 2009] -- traces the ideas and language of Einstein's relativity theories into Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. The project forms a comprehensive study of popularized science in books, magazines and radio, as well as Joyce's manuscripts and reading materials. My recent article, "Early Sources for Joyce and the New Physics: the 'Wandering Rocks' Manuscript, Dora Marsden, and Magazine Culture," was published in Genetic Joyce Studies 9 < http://geneticjoycestudies.org >.
My research and teaching interests also include periodical studies, textual criticism and digital humanities. For a sense of my work, be sure to check out the Ecclesiastical Proust Archive (http://proustarchive.org) , my course on modernist magazines and digital humanities (http://macaulay.cuny.edu/seminars/material-modernism) , as well as the instructional technology website (http://macaulay.cuny.edu/it) at the Macaulay Honors College, CUNY.
